Leigh Ann & Josh | Rosewood | Birmingham Wedding Video

ALL of the credit for this video goes to a guy that has worked with us for years behind the scenes.  He shoots with us, edits for us, talks tech to John when I could care less.  Justin is a great guy, who happens to have loads of talent.  He shot and edited this wedding for Main Street Productions.  He is starting to have his own following among MSP brides!

When Leigh Ann and Josh were planning their wedding at Rosewood in Pinson, Alabama, Renee (the owner) told them how important video would be.  Thankfully they listened.  Just a short time after the wedding, Leigh Ann's beloved grandmother passed away.  We all know our loved ones won't be with us forever but something about them leaving us unexpectedly makes it harder.  Not only do they have wonderful memories of grandma dancing at the wedding reception, but they also have a wonderful video to watch.  Thanks Justin!

How to get something for free during the wedding planning process.

For some time now, I have been debating on whether to publish this post.  But I think I am to the point now where I hope that it will do a lot of good.

Wedding vendors are a tight knit group.  We work hard, put in more than our fair share of hours and then get up and do it all over again.  We also socialize with each other.  When you don't have normal co-workers to complain to, be excited for, you look to each other for valuable information or reassurance.  The good ones realize what an important day your wedding can be and are excited about being a part of it.

But what we are hearing is disturbing.  Brides are talking with each other about how to get discounts from vendors, or how to yell and scream to get something for free. I even saw a chain of posts on The Knot's forums on this very thing.   The advice consisted of being dishonest in talking with her vendors, using cut-throat tactics, all just to get some small percentage off.

I would just like to say that this is not the best approach.  Here is a little known secret in the wedding industry.

Be really nice to your vendors.  Treat them as an artist of their craft.  Treat them like real people.  Respect them.

You might be suprised what you get for free.

Evan & Alicia | Alley Station | Wedding Day Highlights

I LOVE this couple!  They are beautiful on the inside and outside, with a whole lot of fun mixed in.  Alicia and Evan live in Montgomery with the cutest pooch around!  Evan plays for the Toronto Blue Jays (I'm told this is professional baseball, sorry sports fans, I can't keep up!!) and I bet he is good at his job.  From my first conversation with his mom, I could tell how proud she was of him. It was an honor to be able to document this FUN wedding for their families.

This highlights video makes me smile, all 4+ minutes of it.  I love the flower girl's subtle reaction to the bride and groom's first kiss. I really love the way this charming groom takes off the bride's garter.  It was hilarious! Oh and look for the clip of the bride's father wheeling across the dance floor.  Priceless.

Rachel & Jason | The Club | Same Day Edit

Who doesn't love a great surprise?  Especially when you get to surprise an entire room of people, including the bride and groom.

When Rachel's sister-in-law, Stephanie came to us looking to do a Same Day Edit, we were thrilled! We first met Stephanie many years ago through her company (Engaged, A Wedding Library)/PWG Birmingham and instantly became friends.  She is a savvy business woman who loves her family dearly.

Rachel arranged an all-star team for her wedding.  You hear if often but sharing a wedding day with a family is an honor, no matter how many times you do it.

Take a look at this SDE highlights of their special day!  Thanks to Ginny Au with Bits and Bobs, Stephen DeVries Photography, Event Rentals Unlimited, Dreamcakes Bakery, Molly Stilley (bride's hair and makeup), Prince of Peace Catholic church, Happy Catering, The Club, Rare Transportation and HotHouse Design Studio.

Kanika and Drew | Wedding Highlights | Montgomery

If you could only give one word to describe this wedding and couple, it would be fun! It was the kind of wedding that you just fell apart of the wedding party. They had known each other for so many years and they just welcomed us right in.

Thanks to Alene Gamel with I Do, I Do Weddings, Kim Box Photography, and the Capitol City Club for making it all perfect!

Wedding Trend Alert | Next Day Edits

For the past few years, we have seen the popularity rise for Same Day Edits (you can read about them here), but recently the Next Day Edit appeared on the wedding scene.  As a vendor, I am not sure that they are any easier than a SDE; they actually might be harder to produce (because you are tired from the wedding already but still have to stay awake and edit throughout the night).  But the impact is still very high.

For this clip, our family wanted a little entertainment for their Farewell Brunch at ALOFT Hotel on the Sunday following the wedding.  We created this piece to not only help everyone to remember all of the details that came together to make a fabulous wedding but it also gave their family and friends (that were absent) a way of feeling a part of the celebration.

It was delivered that morning and our wonderful editor, John, came home and promptly went to bed!

Abbie + Neal | Shoal Creek | Mother's Loving Words

I just received these kinds words from our mother of the bride from this past weekend. Her daughter, Abbie, was married at the always gorgeous Shoal Creek Country Club.

"Just wanted to send you hugs and kisses and thank you for sharing your weekend with us.  You were so sweet and I love sweet, sweet people.  Can't wait to see what you and your husband captured.  I know it's going to be great.  So glad we were told about yall.  You both were wonderful and so delightful to work with.  You seemed like one of my girls."

Some families stand out more than others.  This family is one of those families.  I LOVED the way the dad looked at his baby girl as a bride.  You could see how proud he was and how much he loved her.  We created a special time for the FOB to see his daughter and it was filled with emotion.  Dad was crying, Abbie was crying, Stacy Richardson (photographer) was crying, I was crying; we were all boo-hooing.  I can't wait to see the footage from this part of the day.

I was so honored to receive this email; I just had to share.  The feeling was mutual.

And now a few quick iPhone photos that I took during the day.
