Featured: Borrowed & Blue

This wedding loveliness was featured recently on Borrowed & Blue for the Birmingham area.  Heading by Anita Kanellis with AK Brides, it was a dreamy day.  Heather Durham did a fantastic job with the photos; I know that pleased Caroline and her family.  Really each way you turn, the vendor team was awesome!  Did you see those flowers from Carol with Lillie Jane!  Wow!

Head on over to B&B and check out the feature.  Here is the link.  I'm going to post the video below too in case you want to relive the wedding day with us!  Enjoy!

Engaged, A Wedding Library located at 1018 Oxmoor Road in Homewood, AL, is the perfect place to go for valuable resources while planning your wedding.  Sure, you can find loads of information online, but sometimes, sitting down with someone and letting them help you organize your things-to-do list is invaluable.  And the ladies at Engaged are really great at being that calming presence in your life.

Twice a year they do Sweet Saturday.  Sweet Saturday allows you to sample cake bites from several different bakeries in the Birmingham area.  This month they have 5 artists featured - Dreamcakes (Homewood), Evelyn Criswell Catering (Springville), Cakes by Kim (McCalla), Pastry Art Bake Shoppe (Inverness and Homewood), and Olexa's (Mountain Brook).

Not only will it save you time picking the perfect cake artist for your wedding day, but it is also a pretty fun day too!  Mark your calendar for this Saturday (February 21) from 11 - 3.  I'm told no appointment is necessary for this wonderful (and free) event!  Thanks Engaged ladies!  Main Street loves you! Catherine and Brook | An enchanting night at The Club

Our wonderful couple was married on one of those November Saturdays that the weather was just perfect.  The kind of day that you felt you should be spinning around on a hilltop somewhere singing at the top of your lungs.  So we really didn't have the option of doing that, as Catherine and Brook were pretty excited to be getting married!  And speaking of newlyweds, photographer extraordinaire, Ann Wade (Parrish) Shreve was just coming back from her own wedding bliss and we were so excited to get to hang/work with her.

Asbury United Methodist Church was the location of the ceremony with The Club for the reception.  A big highlight of the evening was the chocolates on a big table in lieu of the groom's cake.  LOVE this idea. AND the family even had some bagged to give to the vendors after the wedding.  How thoughtful were they!!! (Sure, someone on the cleanup crew decided to help themselves to ours during the going away.  I didn't need the calories anyway...)  I should have snapped a picture of the candy table, but maybe you should just head over to Ann Wade's blog to see the pictures yourself!

Liz and Nick | Autumn Ridge, a beautiful outdoor venue

Some families you just fall in love with immediately.  Actually most of our families, I fall in love with very quickly, thus the reason that we do too many weddings per year.  Regardless, when I met with Liz and her mom and talked about the upcoming wedding, I knew it was one that we wanted to be a part of.  There is just something about them.

And it couldn't have been a more perfect wedding day out at Autumn Ridge in Chelsea, AL.  Under the direction of Becky's Brides, the outdoor ceremony on top of Shelby County's most beautiful mountains was heaven-sent.  The reception was a great mixture of friends and family gathering in the main house and dancing the night away out in the tent on the property.

We had a great time (as always) working beside David Shirk with Unplugged Photography (his amazing images can be found here).  And don't worry, David, I have recovered from having to jump on the golf cart while you were driving off without me!

Oh no he di'int...

When I came across this photo, I couldn't believe what I was seeing!  This was not our wedding so I don't know all of the details.  (A special thanks to Jennifer Woodbury for letting me use the photo for learning purposes.)

It appears that the gentleman holding the tripod in front of the bride and groom is a friend of the family. He might have even volunteered to film the wedding ceremony for the couple.  How great, right!  It saves lots of money and gives him a job.  I get that.  I don't agree, but I get it.  But obviously we have an issue.  A professional videographer would NEVER, EVER be so obtrusive.

This photo actually makes me a little irritated because so often brides tell us that the reason that they don't want video is because they don't want a camera in their face all day.  We don't work that way.  We try to be as unobtrusive as we possibly can.  A professional would know how to get the shots without being in the way.  Professionals are also held to a higher standard.  Churches place restrictions on us so that this doesn't happen (not that we would ever do this); they can't control what guests do.  Thus the reason that we have this example of a bad situation.

Not only did he ruin the photographer's shot, but what did they guests see during this pivotal moment of the ceremony vows?  So you save a little money, but yet it costs you in other ways.

I want to use this photo to help brides understand that it doesn't have to be this way.  There are ways to get an amazing shot without being in the way.  A professional videographer will be able to do this without you noticing that they are even around.  This is what it looks like when you hire a professional videographer.  This photo of the wedding ceremony came from David Shirk with Unplugged Photography.  Do you see our cameras?  We actually had 4. I don't even see one of ours.

My advice would just be to let your friends and family enjoy your wedding day and hire a professional videographer.  In almost 10 years of business, we have NEVER had someone regret having a video, only not having one.  Your wedding day will go by so fast (everyone says this because it is true); a professional wedding video will be something that you will treasure for years.

Sara and Drew | Double Oak CC, The Club

We are pretty lucky that we have such great couples at Main Street.  They are great and their families are usually great too!  But it will take a lot to top this couple.  Miss Sara (who knows everyone in the city of Birmingham it seems) and her beau, Drew were married in a romantic ceremony at Double Oak Community Church.  With almost 500 guests, it is easy to see the number of people this couple impacted.  The Club was the reception location and was flawless as usual.

We were able to work with an outstanding photographer, Alyson with Eternal Reflections by Alyson. She was so much fun and the photos turned out amazing!   Check them out here.

We love wedding planners!  How could you not?? They keep the day running smoothly and efficiently, they look out for you throughout the day, and they generally make the day better.  As much as we love planners, we love planner extraordinaire, Beverly Andrews with Engaging Celebrations!  So our course with her in charge the day was almost easy. Almost. Ha! Geoff and Lamar with JAMM Entertainment were both in attendance as DJs for Sara and Drew's reception.  They had everyone dancing and having a great time, which makes the footage look so fun!

The only thing that went wrong the whole day was Sara's lipstick kept staining Drew's lips and cheeks!!!

Other vendors involved:

The Something Blue Shoppe

Bridesmaid’s Inc.

Brides & Bow Ties

BBJ Linen

Vintage Auto Chauffer

Mr. Burch

Porcelain & Pink and Morgan Ashley Studio Salon

We are so excited to share the highlight film from Sara and Drew's wedding!
