Catherine and Matt | Iron City

As Catherine and Matt's wedding planner stated, their wedding was "It was a beautiful Great Gatsby meets southern charm meets downtown Birmingham vibe." The wedding was covered with beautiful draping and flowers. It was stunning!

Lauren and Brian | Aldridge Gardens

Summertime here in Alabama can be tricky for hosting an outdoor wedding.  Thankfully for Lauren and Brian (and their friends and family), it was the perfect day for an Aldridge Gardens' wedding.  A special thanks to Sam for doing an awesome job on this project!

Emily and Randall | American Village

I always ask our couples how they met. It's part of the process in getting to know them AND I am always curious.  We have some couples that met in school, some through mutual friends and a rising number that met online. Occasionally people are shy about the fact that they met online, but they have no reason to be.  It is so cool!  Emily and Randall are just perfect for each other!

They wanted a fun, but classy wedding with lots of dancing while NOT serving alcohol.  As you watch their film you will see that they got the wedding of their dreams!  I had no idea that Emily was going to break it down as much as she did!!!

#GivingTuesday - let's get started

If you have ever had a conversation with me for any extended length of time, you were bound to experience some of my passion for the hashtag, #GivingTuesday.  You see that particular hashtag only "trends" once a year - the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.  Because November (the thankful month) is the only time of the year that people reaching out to others is a popular topic.  I feel that people are more giving of their time, talents and money during this season.  But what about the rest of the year?  The hungry still get hungry in January! I would love to see #GivingTuesday to trend each week - wouldn't that be awesome! If Jimmy Fallon can do it for his crazy hashtags, we should be able as well!!!

I really think that when a need is in front of someone, that others will step up.  But we all get busy, don't we?  We get so caught up in our day to day life that we forget about the countless others in the world that might need a little something extra.

Even though this blog post is being composed in the month that everyone remembers to give, I still want to go ahead with my plan.  (My ideal month would be February or June or some other time when people are less likely to give.)  My plan is to highlight Birmingham wedding vendors that I know are using their talent to serve others.  I brainstormed for about 5 minutes and came up with 10 people off the top of my head.  I'm sure there are others.  A lot of these people don't directly advertise their giving nature, so finding them is hard. Please feel free to suggest to me if you know of someone that is going above and beyond! I would love to showcase their mission to increase awareness for everyone!  I can't wait for this challenge!!!!

Chelsea and David | Mathews Manor

This might be my favorite Mathews Manor wedding to date!  Both the bride and groom's families were so nice, PLUS everyone had such a great time at the wedding.

Anna and Nick | Applewood Farm

We were so thrilled to hear that one of our favorite venues was under new management.  Acres and acres of gorgeousness is what Applewood Farms is known for! It was the perfect setting for our horse-loving bride, Anna and her cutie groom, Nick.

Perspective

I have to say being involved in an industry where you are a part of a family's special day is pretty awesome.  Everyone is (usually) in a great mood and ready to celebrate.  We love getting caught up in the excitement of a bride marrying her groom!  But at the end of the day, after all of the guests have left, after the food is cold, a wedding day is still about two families coming together. Sure the whole process can be stressful and overwhelming, but having perspective goes a long way. It is the start of forever!  And sometimes that forever can start with really hard things.

Right now we have several families that are dealing with really hard things.  We have at least 5 moms that are battling cancer, mostly breast cancer.  A wedding day to these families might be a little different than some.  For my mom, my brother's wedding was something that gave her hope, honestly something to live for (not that her family wasn't enough but you know what I mean).  She enjoyed planning the details and was so excited for the day to arrive.  Unfortunately she died a week before the wedding.  I have no doubt that she hung on longer because she had this great party to look forward to.

But as I meet these sweet moms (and daughters) that are currently going through treatments or recovery and I see their short, after chemo hair, or their beautiful wigs that they bought especially for the wedding, it gives me so much perspective on what's really important.  Spend quality time with your loved ones.  Don't go crazy if the place cards are not perfect.  It's not the end of the world.  In 20 years you are not going to remember that about the day.  Be in the moment and enjoy the wedding festivities.  Enjoy your family that have all made such a great effort to be at your wedding.  And the best part is at the end of the wedding day, you and your honey are partners for life!  Their family is your family, even through really hard things.

With the end of October near - and the end of Breast Cancer Awareness Month - I want to try to give some perspective to everyone.  Just take a deep breath when the wedding gets stressful and remember why it is that you are getting married.

Christie and Corey | 6th Avenue Baptist Church

This latest film comes from the talents of Chris and Trip.  They work so well together and it shows in this beautiful film for Christie and Corey.

The day started off at the Sheraton in Downtown Birmingham.  Christie and her girls were relaxed and just having fun (by the way, this is the way it should be)!!!!  Their wedding ceremony took place at 6th Avenue Baptist Church with their fun reception at the Harbert Center. And yes, that was the bride and her father, Whipping and a Nae Nae'ing! Love it!

Southern groom's cakes

We are Southerners.  People love their sweet tea and football.  So naturally would would see these influences on a wedding day, especially when couples really love to personalize their wedding.  Here in the South it is common to have a groom's cake. Although the tradition started in England, it was even featured in Steel Magnolias, where the red velvet groom's cake was shaped like a armadillo!

We see a lot of hobbies featured on groom's cakes but more than anything, we see allegiances to football teams.  This is not even a trend just during football season - it's all year.  Whether you are a Roll Tide or War Eagle fan, you are sure to love these examples!
