Liz and Chris | Reid Chapel | The Club

So today is December 19, 2015 and it is a pretty special day around here.  Our Director of Awesome, Chris Carr, is getting married to his long-time girlfriend, Amy.  We are so happy for them!  What does this have to do with Liz and Chris' wedding film?  Well even though I asked our Chris not to stay up all night finishing this film, he did.  He wanted Liz to have her wedding film before he took a few days off for his honeymoon.  And he blew it out of the park too!  It's incredible.  That is why we call him our Director of Awesome.

There is just something about Liz.  As soon as you meet her, you see it, you feel it.  After many years of dating, she and (her) Chris tied the knot late summer on Samford University's campus, at Reid Chapel.  It's gorgeous!  For their wedding reception, they traveled to The Club and had a blast dancing with the band all night, fabulous fireworks, and the cutest interactive father/daughter dance ever!

Video is powerful...Video is timeless...Video is priceless...

For many brides, video is an after thought.  Not all.  But sometimes videographers are the last ones to be hired.  After the wedding, though, our importance is suddenly through the roof.  You can't get back your wedding day - and trust me, it will fly by - you can't get back the people who are no longer with us - but with video, you preserve the memory, their memory - the laughter and tears.

Last week I posted about one of our dear brides that was fighting for her life and needed as many people praying for her as there could be! In that blog post, I posted Molly and her husband, Rich's love story that we filmed one bright and sunny day over 5 years ago.  It was their legacy; something that they could show their kids one day. They had a great story. Their love was so easily seen in that video.

On Saturday, Molly passed away, one day after her 5 year wedding anniversary.  She courageously fought Stage 4 Melanoma with everything she had.  She leaves behind her loving husband and three beautiful baby girls. On that very day, I noticed that we had a video that was being watched a lot. I did a little tracking on our analytics and found that people were sharing Molly and Rich's love story video.  It made my heart happy. We actually had over 20,000 people click on that blog post in one day.  Crazy.  But who wouldn't want to watch that special love they shared.  It radiated from them.  The best part of it all? I got a sweet message last night from Molly's best friend who was so glad that she could see that video anytime she wanted and be able to hear Molly's voice and laughter.  Video is powerful.

When Rich called us on Monday to ask if we would film the funeral, we were honored. The Remmert/Rossell clan is an amazing family.  No, funerals are not generally happy times, like weddings.  But filming a funeral still preserves a moment in time, a memory.  I heard today that on their wedding anniversary (Friday), that the entire family watched the wedding video that we produced.  They wanted to relive those wonderful happy moments from the wedding.  I bet Molly's girls love seeing their mommy and daddy dancing at their wedding reception!  Video is timeless.

As I type this blog post, I can hear John editing the funeral from today.  It was beautiful and touching and I'm so glad that we were there to capture it.  Molly's dad was able to deliver such an eloquent eulogy. I cried all of the way through it.  Family and friends saluted Rich and his monumental task of raising those three little girls. But you know what, Our Lady of the Sorrows didn't have a seat open.  The church was packed, all with people that loved Molly.  Not only will the wonderful words said today be preserved forever, but the best part of it will be that Rayne, Brooks and Bess will be able to watch and know how many people loved their mommy.  Video is priceless, don't you agree?

Here is just the homily from the service that I referenced above. Beautiful. Just beautiful.

Julia and Harrison | Birmingham Country Club

What do you do when you arrive to your wedding reception and there's no power.  Like none.  Well if you are Julia and Harrison's friends and family, you party like nothing is wrong.  AG Lighting had some battery powered lights for the dance floor, we had our video lights and thankfully the band was able to run a LONG extension cord. Sure it was hot.  But that didn't stop the fun!

McKenna and Garry | Bryant Conference Center

After 3 1/2 years of dating, McKenna and Garry were married on a hot August day in Tuscaloosa, AL.  We absolutely love it when the entire bridal party is ready to have fun with the bride and groom.  It means lots of dancing and even more laughter!  - just what the bride wanted for her wedding day.

Lindsé and Andy | Gabrella Manor

Sometimes weddings (and wedding films) take on different meanings as life happens.  You start off planning the wedding of your dreams.  You pick fabulous vendors, the most beautiful venue and everything is perfect. Two weeks before the wedding, your groom's mom gets diagnosed with cancer. The wedding turns into a celebration of life to give the family the strength to battle what's ahead. It's a fun party!  Everyone has a great time!  You go skipping off on your honeymoon with your handsome groom and come back with a little "surprise." Just another reminder what is truly most important in this world.  Congratulations Lindsé and Andy - on the wedding, the marriage, the baby on the way and for wonderful test results that came back from Andy's mom! Enjoy your wedding film!

Megan and Levi | American Village

My favorite parts of this wedding day are the first looks!  Megan's first look with her dad will bring tears to your eyes!  Every girl needs a dad that loves her this much!!! When it was time to see Levi for the first time, you can hear how taken back he was on the way she looked. After gushing on how beautiful she looked, Levi commented,  "You make me look really ugly right now."  ha! Love it!!! Take a listen for yourself!

#GivingTuesday - Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep

(#GivingTuesday is part of a weekly series of blog posts highlight Birmingham wedding vendors that use their time and talents to serve others. Those that go over and beyond so that #GivingTuesday becomes #GivingEveryday.)

"My Child Existed"

There are many photographers, nationwide, that volunteer for Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep. NILMDTS offers "the gift of remembrance" to parents who have just recently lost their newborn baby.  The photographers are contacted by the hospital so that they can serve a family in the most difficult time.

In the Birmingham area, we have (at least) two photographers that give so selflessly of themselves that they have been volunteering with NILMDTS for 7 years.  Butch and Joy Oglesby (Blue Moon Studios), not only are fantastic wedding photographers, but they also make beautiful images of recently passed infants so that the parents can have priceless professional pictures of their baby forever - pictures without tubes or wires or anything like that - just pictures of the parents loving their baby.

"It is a hard thing to do sometimes, but always rewarding because we can give the family something to remember their child. One mother told me it says "my child existed."  We were photographing an event downtown and a young woman approached us and said "you don't remember me but, you photographed by child that passed away two years ago, and as she cried she told us how much the photos we took meant to her and her family......that makes it worthwhile." - Joy Oglesby

NOTE: Butch and Joy will be hosting Artists on the Bluff from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon TODAY!!!!! Go check out what they have plus the other artists in the old Bluff Park Elementary School.

Main Street Productions will become Cinepear in January 2016.

Ashley and Ernest | Rosewood Hall

Ashley and Ernest wanted a beautiful and fun wedding that incorporated their two children.  They wanted their friends and family to have a good time!  And as you can tell from the film below, they accomplished their goals.  Rosewood Hall has never looked more stunning either!  Watch and enjoy!

A Story of True Love

Over 5 years ago, we filmed a couple that wanted a video to not only show at their rehearsal dinner, but to also show to their future kids.  That's what video is all about, isn't it?  Preserving a moment in time.  (Sure this particular moment in time was filmed with pretty harsh lighting and is dreadfully long. We've grown a lot in 5 years.)

This family was already very special to us, as we had gotten to know them from another of our weddings.  But just as the groom, Rich, says here "There was just something about Molly...she had angels around her..."

Three precious girls later, Molly finds out that she has Stage 4 Melanoma.  She practically has the entire city of Homewood, really the entire state, praying for her around the clock (#miracleformolly) but she is in a fight for her life.  Maybe you can keep her in your thoughts and prayers too.

When my mom was sick, I remember someone giving us the book, "Why Bad Things Happen to Good People." I never read it, but still to this day, I still don't understand.  Molly is one of the greats and she has a loving husband and three beautiful little girls to raise.  She is strong. If anyone can beat this cancer, it is Molly! I think it is awesome that the title I gave this video over 5 years ago, A Story of True Love, is still a phrase that can still be used to describe Rich and Molly.

Update: Molly passed away early Saturday morning, 5 years and 1 day after marrying the love of her life.  #cancersucks
