Giving Back: American Heart Association

Several of our bride chose The American Heart Association.

  • About 610,000 people die of heart disease in the United States every year–that's 1 in every 4 deaths.
  • Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. More than half of the deaths due to heart disease in 2009 were in men. (Taken from the CDC)

Founded in 1924, the American Heart Association is saving lives through research and education.  You can also contribute here

Giving Back: Upcoming Blog Series

It's the time of year that people naturally think of others and how they might bless them.  If you have read anything from me about this topic before, you know I feel strongly about this being a year-round mission.  But that's for a different day.

As a company, for every bride that books with Main Street Productions, we give a portion of the money to their selected charity.  Learn more.  As 2016 comes to a close, I thought it would be neat to highlight 6 of the charities that our brides have chosen this year. (Yes we have given to more than 6 this year but this is just a weekly blog series.) Check back each day and maybe even get inspired to do a little last minute giving before the year ends!

Wedding Trend - S'Mores Bar!

Maybe it's my need for cooler weather to (finally) arrive to Alabama, but there is just something about a S'Mores.  I love that we are seeing them now at wedding receptions.  We have searched Pinterest for the best ideas for a S'Mores bar for your wedding.  Here are our top 5 loves!

1 - Love this display from Rustic Wedding Chic

2 - Need a DIY solution?  Target has your answer! I think it's pretty cute, don't you?

3 - Need a great wedding favor for your Fall wedding?  S'Mores it is!  Lovely!  Read more about it (along with 9 other great options) here.

4 - This might be my favorite.  It could be because of the Reece Cups...

5 - We can't forget that we are Southern gals.  Our grooms are basically REQUIRED to have a groom's cake.  Why not make it a S'Mores cake!  How fun (and delicious!)  Found on Wedding Wire.

For S'more ideas, check out our Pinterest board, Tips for our Brides.

#GivingTuesday

Last year, throughout the months of November and December, on each Tuesday we highlighted a Birmingham wedding vendor that gave back to their community. I loved this project.  #GivingTuesday is a global movement, occurring the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.  Anyone that knows me, knows it is very near and dear to my heart.  Giving back is something we all should do - here is Main Street's pledge

Why does it only have to be two months of the year that we are conditioned to think of and give to others? I'm fairly certain that I wrote this same thing last year. (Edit: I did. Read the post here; it was a good one.)  Regardless I do like to take advantage of people's giving nature, even if it is only during the holidays.  So for the entire month of November and December, I will highlight someone or something that is making a difference in this life we are sharing.  You can follow us along on Facebook for a post each day (not just on Tuesdays) to inspire you.  Maybe you will be so inspired to give yourself.  Don't worry, we will still post wedding videos, but I want to flood it with people making a difference. You can also check back on the blog to find vendors being highlighted for their giving back activities. Are you as excited as I am????
