I normally make it a policy to not put any tips that have been spotted at a wedding recently, but this one is actually from this past weekend.
The bride and groom chose not to see each other before the ceremony, so they had to take pictures while the guests went on to the reception. This can sometimes make things a little rushed, but this couple had thought of that.
When the guests arrived at the wedding reception they were treated to the buffet of food and drinks. This is standard - keeps them occupied and happy while you are finishing up pictures! When the couple arrived on scene, they immediately cut the cake. By this time the guests were ready for dessert, so it worked out nicely.
(HERE IS THE TIP!!!!)
The great thing was that as soon as they cut the cake for photos and video, the servers brought out already cut slices and handed them out to people, while another two servers starting cutting the actual cake. It helped for there not to be a line of people waiting for wedding cake! Brilliant!

Out here in the intermountain west it's pretty common for people to have a fake wedding cake (decorated styrofoam! with just a one layer real for the "cutting of the cake"), and serve sheet cake to the guests. I like what this bride and groom did. I nice mix of both ways... precut cake + wedding cake. Perfect!
